SF Art and Architecture

Here is the second half of my San Francisco pics. Check out my next post for amazing hot springs and the eastern sierra.

To transition from the prior post, some artistic architecture (there was another two sets of escalators here but those pics weren’t very good)

P1070005

The federal building is very thin but very wide, and the mural on Market street in front of it was intense, he is carrying scales on his back

P1070006

The motor hotel I stayed at was so mod it hurt

P1070007

But they had this weird sculpture out front

P1070008

Union square had some hearts on display. Other cities have done similar art installations with their symbols, such as roosters in Miami or Cows in Chicago

P1070009

In a thai area (I think, it could be another southeast asian culture) they had these stone sculptures 8 feet up on each side of the street

P1070010

There were murals everywhere, this one was on a post office

P1070017

And on almost every other surface there were fantastic creations

P1070018

Even the sides of buildings

P1070019

Falling dog

P1070020

This was the most spectacular, see the peacock?

P1070038

Two stores up on Market street there was this succulent garden hanging on the wall

P1070039

Close-up

P1070040

A local theater had this intricate design on the alcoves at street level

P1070043

This is a famous hotel, but I can’t remember the name

P1070046

They are building a new subway line up through Union Square to Chinatown, ripping up the streets as they go

P1070048

I thought the contrast outside Louis Vuitton was intense

P1070053

Just over the hill…

P1070089

Was Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf, a crab with a living shell greets visitors

P1070091

What, a chocolate heaven? Not really, they didn’t have anything that piqued my interest

P1070096

So, so many boats

P1070097

Even big ones

P1070098

Views for days

P1070109

And Alcatraz to finish off the set
