Giant Sequoia’s Pt. 3.2 – Crescent Meadow, Gem of the Sierra’s

So I picked where I wanted to go on my vacation last summer by looking at a satellite map and seeing this beautiful meadow, surrounded by many others, that was surrounded by the giant forest of Sequoia National Park.

Here was the end of my journey…

So I soaked in this meadow, with intermittent showers, in all its glory all day long. This late in the summer/early fall, there were few others to crowd the experience

To get this mid-meadow shot, which is truly spectacular, I went rouge while still protecting the area (more below)

P1100462

The trees occasionally fall into the meadow to decompose and help slow down the streams

P1100463

The towering giants were nestled along the edges

P1100464

Along with other tall trees, like doug fir, sugar pines and western red cedar

P1100465

The contrast in species often shows up in the bark

P1100466

As well as those crowned tops

P1100547

Another mid-meadow shot, looking back at a tree we will see in just a bit

P1100548

A little closer from this same view

P1100549

I really like the one on the left

P1100550

This one shoots up above its neighbors

P1100556

Standing alone

P1100557

So regal

P1100558

Here is that tree from all the way on the other side of the meadow

P1100559

Or it was this one, I can’t tell now

P1100560

This one is the overseer on high ground keeping watch over these peaceful woodlands

P1100561

Poking around the bend

P1100578

So I saw this log and couldn’t resist the opportunity for an amazing shot, despite the dire warnings to stay out of the meadow

P1100579

On my way, I realized I needed to hurry up, as this was a bear playground, like 30 minutes ago

P1100580

They rolled all over the place flattening down the grasses

P1100581

There were a few final wildflowers along the log

P1100583

Another shot from the log of the crescent meadow curve

P1100585

A parting giant

P1100587

That’s the end of this journey, but I’ll have many fun and stupefying pics coming up soon.
